Social networking.... oops!

I'm still such a newby to this whole blogging thang. I was bumbling about on the web and came upon the wiki "2008 Comment Challenge" which gives great tips on blog etiquette, as well as discussing the importance of comments on blogs. The wiki discusses and promotes how essential it is to comment in the blogosphere in order to build communities, contribute and further the progression of ideas or memes. So now I must apologise to any and all who have commented on my postings when I have rudely not replied. Very sorry, I didn't realise nor understand my faux pas.

Hi Hildegard,

Thanks for linking to my blog. Bloggers have differing opinions on commenting back to readers on posts. There are lots of bloggers that don't however if your goal is to build a community commenting back to your readers is important.

Thanks for highlighting the importance of commenting on blogs - it does encourage people that they are not blogging in a void, and people can learn from each other through the discussion on the posts. An example of this is the discussion on Lorcan Dempsey's blog

I agree Sue and Ellen - I think that it's really important to build a community and that should be at least one of the outcomes of this programme. So what if we seldom met in the corridors at the Library? If we can discuss things via blogs, wikis, etc then another line of communication has been opened that may bring about further ideas and solutions to library-related issues.

Must say though, I'm a little weirded out that spam has struck me via the comments on my blog! (See comments by ytw.)
